A big (e)book for stories made by Karissa Sitepu
“Mother, where are you going” I said in a firm and questionable voice. My mother stuttered and shaked. I could not understand what she wanted to say to me. Then she was grabbed by my father who started acting weird ever since he visited the “Fortune Teller” at the crowded county fair. The client before him turned out to be fine and walked with confidence out of the opaque tent, but as soon as my dad walked outside of the tent, my joyful and humorous father had turned into a creepy, and haunted stranger that I am supposed to call my loving father.
Ever since my loving father turned into a creepy unfamiliar person, my mother started to talk about filing a divorce. Right after all of that thinking, my father had grabbed my mother and put her in the minivan, and started to turn on the radio on a station that I have never heard of. From there on, I never knew where my mother and father had drove to. Once I knew that the coast was clear, I grabbed my older sister and ran to the Thomason’s house, the family we knew the most. I grabbed my best friend Margaret and told the story to her who told it to her father who had fortunately put a security camera inside the tent and kept all the footage to look at after the county fair was over. I told him what time my father stepped into the tent and what time his session ended. He then scrolled the little circle on the line to a specific location on the line and pressed the play button. The “Fortune Teller” waved his hands and all the sudden a puff of flames had appeared for a second and covered my father. After the flames appeared, my father came out of the tent and that was when he started acting weird. “He has to be a wizard of some sort...” I said. Mr. Thomason was speechless and contacted the local police station, sending them the footage. Half and hour later, I saw police cars and what looked like detectives and policemen inside of them. I rushed back to my house and asked what they were doing in my house. The detective behind the cop I was asking heard what I said. The detective then faced me and asked about everything I knew about the strange incident. I replied with everything I knew and saw during the fair and after it. My dad had forgotten about the GPS tracking device on the minivan that can track down wherever the vehicle went, but then again, he could have somehow hacked it to stay at one location the whole time. Even though he may have hacked the system, we can still at least try for once, even though we may not find him. I told my theory to the detective. He told me to stay calm and the team will figure it out "The Right Way." I then grabbed him and said "Tell me. I demand you!" I am so sick and tired of people underestimating me, but I will not cry if I fail my mission to save my mother. I will go on no matter what is in my way or what tries to block my path. The detective hesitated for a second or two. After the silence, he walked away. After all that arguing, I realized his face from somewhere, I just did not know where. The detective then sprinted to his car and locked it as soon as he got in, but when I saw him speed away, his eyes started to glow a little bit red. The situation baffled me and got me more worried, yet more confident. There was no more time I could wasted panicking and thinking about my mother. I rushed and told Mr. Thomason to go to the specific location. He realized I could be correct so he agreed to drive me to the location. On the way, I soon noticed the specific location my dad may have left on was the airport. I soon worried my dad was already long gone. In the vehicle Mr. Thomason asked me if I saw anyone suspicious or familiar while the police were near me. It was then I suddenly noticed, the rushed detective was the fortune teller. I immediately told Mr. Thomason. The only thing I heard for the rest of the ride was a silent gasp from Mr. Thomason. To be continued...

Away, Lost, And Together Again
By Karissa Sitepu Chapter I: Adapting to Boring Melissa Smith was turning 12 in three more days. Her parents were splitting and now she had to spend her birthday week in her grandparents’ tedious house. The house was so boring she spent the first two days trying to adapt to the level of boredom around the house while at the same time trying to learn how to enjoy watching paint dry on her Grandpa’s canvas. As she looked at the painting on the canvas, she saw a girl that looked exactly like her, except wearing a plain and simple 16th century dress. She also saw a man who looked as if he was introducing himself while riding a strong and muscular pegasus with a saddle that was labeled “H E R C U L E S.” Even though she looked at the entire canvas for a little while or so, she still was confused about what the painting actually meant. On the very morning of Melissa’s birthday, she zoomed through the thin hallway and straight to the dining room where she had breakfast. She ate like a hungry wolf, washed the dishes, cleaned her room, made her bed, and sped straight for the living room. She thought she would be greeted with cards, a few presents, and a decent birthday cake, but all she saw was one large cookie and a thick present wrapped in old wrapping paper that read, “To: Melissa From: Grandma and Grandpa,” in faded letters. Chapter II: The Mythical Strange Melissa ripped the paper to what seemed to be an dusty book with no title and was starting to wear out. Melissa’s grandpa encouraged her to open the book, but instead Melissa thanked him and her grandma for the gift as if she never heard what her grandpa said. She walked into her tidy room and sat on the bed and opened the book thinking that it would be very tedious. Obviously, she didn’t know the book would change her life the second she opened it. After thinking for a while, Melissa finally opened the book and... POOF! All of a sudden Melissa was on an island isolated by endless waters wearing a nice and simple velvet 16th century dress that seemed to be exactly like Melissa’s Grandpa’s painting on the canvas. A few minutes later a man in puffy white clothes, also from the 16th century, stopped by Melissa. He was riding what seemed to be a muscular pegasus with a saddle that had a pretty sewn tag that read, “H E R C U L E S” in the same exact spot and font as the one in the painting. The strange and confident man had long blonde and curvy hair and said, “Hello madam, nice to meet you., I see, you have come here by reading the book without a title. Well for one fact, I know that your Grandfather saw me when he was also your age. No wonder he painted that painting and gave you that strange little book... Oh, and by the way, my name is John, John Higgenmore, and I am guessing you name is Melissa Smith.” John said in a strong British accent in an excited voice. Melissa then replied in confusion “Mr. Higgenmore first of all, how do you know my first and last name and-” ”Every night I meet you Grandfather in his dreams. He may be a boring lad, but sure has a sense of curiosity and creativity, but he is a shy man. And before you ask how I know him I will tell you why. Let me explain what is in the wonderful what you say “Strange World,” In this world there are many different types of pearls, each one doing something different whenever you rub them. There are also sky pirates in this world. Sky pirates are basically pirates, but they live and work in the sky. That is why we have to be careful around clouds and make sure we circle them before we move on. Every sky pirate keeps one pearl,, and when you defeat a sky pirate, you can get whichever pearl the sky pirate has kept. I caught a dream pearl while fighting with your grandfather when he was a child just like you. Because of the pearl, I could visit your grandfather in his dreams any time he is sleeping. And, one more thing, would you like to ride a pegasus?” John interrupted. Melissa manifestly nodded yes. “KARISSA’,” John yelled. Instantly a pretty golden pegasus came with a saddle that had another tag sewn onto it that labeled “Karissa.” All the sudden, in the blink of the eye, Melissa’s velvet dress was changed into horse riding gear and clothes, and was sitting on Karissa the pegasus that was following John. They soared around the sky and then all the sudden went circling a small cloud. Then to their surprise, a person dressed like a pirate, but in white and blue ripped the cloud and climbed on top of it from inside. He seemed to cast a spell on John, causing him to all the sudden lose balance and fall off as Melissa looked on hopelessly and gasped with a dreadful frown. Only if I had a cloud to save his fall. Only one cloud… Melissa thought. Chapter III: One Thought, One Solution All the sudden, a cloud appeared right below John just before he splashed into the cold water. While Melissa was waiting for the cloud to float back up to the sky, she fought the pirate with an almost broken wooden sword that she removed from Hercules’s saddle and defeated the pirate. Right after she defeated him, she grabbed the pearl and kept it safe on Karissa’s saddle until John could verify what the pearl could do. Once John rose to Melissa’s level, he jumped onto his pegasus and Melissa immediately asked John to verify to pearl. “Wow, Melissa what did you do while I was rising on the cloud? The pirate that you defeated was not any ordinary sky pirate, he was the most undefeated sky pirate of them all! His name is Richard Goldson, also known as “Undefeated”. And that pearl you have there, it’s the best pearl one can ever get: The Changer Pearl. This spectacular pearl will do anything that you say when you are holding it!” John exclaimed. Chapter IV: One Wish And One Family John returned the pearl to Melissa. Melissa held the delicate pearl with both of her soft and tender hands. “I wish I could bring my parents together forever so I can be happy once again and celebrate my 12th birthday… with my mom and dad.” Melissa whispered. POOF! This time Melissa was not in her grandparents’ house and now she was back to her humble home in Betrice County where she was greeted with her favorite cookie cake decorated in frosting that wrote her name. She found presents for her all over the house and found the magical book that brought her family back together and whispered “Thank you John.” She then hugged her parents and her 2 younger siblings. She then found her Grandpa sitting in the patio on the rocking chair with Melissa’s dog. “Grandpa, just one more thing, how did you know you should’ve painted that painting while at the same time give me the book?,” questioned Melissa. “Well Melissa, I met John in my dreams and he told me to paint that painting and give you the book. He was very excited to see what would happen,” answered Melissa’s Grandfather. Once the exciting day was over she slept and met John in her dreams. She thanked John and gave him some apples she found in her other dreams for the all the pegasi John had. The End |
